What kind of maintenance is required on these bitaxe and how often? And does anyone know what's the typical life expectancy of these little machines?

just make sure you dust them.. fan and heat sink too.

@sunny-skies123 how would I clean the heat sink? Do I have to take the fan off, or can I just blow air through the side?

@hallie52 ideally you remove the fan and get all the dust off the heatsink. If you don't have the time but still want to do something you can get a spray can of air and point it at the heat sink from the side.

@hallie52 You can also remove the fan and brush off the dust manually.. like with a soft brush. You don't have to buy compressed air.

Eventually you'll need to re-apply the thermal paste, but I haven't figured out yet how often that needs to be done.

@yurijoseph14 quality thermal paste can last for several years. You don't need to think much about it unless your temps get too high.

If you don't want to remove the fan you can stick you finger between the blades to make it stop spinning, and then spray compressed air through the opening.
