I just switched my NMaxe from public pool to Solo CK Pool and it seems to be hashing about 100 gh/s faster now on average. Is this just a coincidence or can a better mining pool actually make the chip run faster?

You should at least extend the timeline to the hourly level to look at the average hashrate such as the 1, 3, and 6 hour windows.
